Minnesota-Kansas City Trade: Mendez for Barton

The Twins have reached a deal with Kansas City, sending 25-year-old SS Israel Soto and 27-year-old CF Ramiro Mendez to the Royals in exchange for 26-year-old SS Steve Watson, 27-year-old 1B Matt Barton, 23-year-old minor league RHP Danny Walpole, 30-year-old RHP Matt Bord, 24-year-old RF Jesus Arellano and a 4th round draft pick. Reports had been hinting at a deal in recent days, but weren't confirmed until this afternoon.


During his career Mendez has hit .320 with 827 hits, 39 home runs, 292 RBIs and scored 461 runs.

His numbers show Barton is carrying a .311 lifetime batting average with 87 home runs and 419 RBIs.
Minnesota Announces Deal for Veteran 1B

The Twins and Luis Pineda reached an accord earlier today which brings the first baseman to town for 2 years.

Pineda will pocket $13,000,000 total and is widely expected to contribute significantly to the club's playoff drive.

In his 2078-game career Pineda is batting .312 with 528 doubles, 92 triples, 318 home runs and 1345 RBIs. He has stolen 489 bases and scored 1428 times.
Veteran Figueroa, Kansas City Complete Deal

Kansas City came to terms with veteran reliever Luis Figueroa today, locking up the 35-year-old to a $7,600,000, 2-year deal.

Lifetime Figueroa has put up a 65-and-93 record with 238 saves and a 4.24 ERA.
