Round 1 Goes the Distance, Florence Prevails

The joy and relief on the faces of the Florence Y'alls players was obvious as they celebrated their Round 1 win over the Joliet Slammers.
"In a series like this, the smallest thing can make the difference in how it turns out," said Florence first baseman Steve Boardman, shortly after the 12-5 win that clinched the series 4-3. "We're happy we did what it takes to get it done."
The team is now off to the Frontier League Championship.
Boardman won series MVP honors on the strength of his .385 batting average during the series. He also had a .448 on-base percentage and 2 home runs, drove in 8 RBI and scored 4 runs.
The Florence Y'alls will play against the New Jersey Jackals in the next round. New Jersey won their series against the Southern Illinois Miners 4 games to 2. The Frontier League Championship is scheduled to begin on September 9th , 2061.

Morse Raps Joliet for 5 Hits

The Florence Y'alls stopped the Joliet Slammers by a score of 12-5 at SilverCross Field, with the lion's share of the credit going to center fielder Dave Morse. The 26-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Morse said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Morse did just that in his 5 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Slammers.
"Not much that I can say," offered Joliet manager . "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Dave Morse walked in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
This season, Morse is batting .251 with 49 hits, 6 home runs, 24 RBIs, 29 walks, .369 OBP and has scored 30 runs. He has played in 58 games.
