Mercati on Fire: 5-for-5 for Boston Friday, June 21st, 2019 No matter what the Chicago White Sox threw at him today, Ettore Mercati hit it. He easily handled White Sox pitching, going 5 for 5 and helping the Red Sox to a 9-6 triumph at Fenway Park. "The way I was swinging today, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball," he told BNN reporters in the postgame interview. Told of Mercati's quip, White Sox skipper Luis Carrillo said he "would take him up on that next time." Ettore Mercati singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
