Range Riders Starting Pitcher Hurt in Off-Field Mishap

Glacier starting pitcher Mason Hickman called in hurt today. He told Range Riders officials that he had suffered a concussion when he fell off a bull at a rodeo. After being examined by his physician Hickman said it looked like he would probably miss about 8 months.

Boise Hawks' Team Leader, Jake Schrand Riled Up With Hitting Coach

Normally a leader in the clubhouse, Jake Schrand is rumored to have expressed a desire for the team's hitting coach Travis Buck to demand more of the other players who "don't carry their weight around here." According to an anonymous teammate, Schrand reacted to the rumor of the news getting out to the media by saying, "It sounds worse than it was," but admitted there's more to the story than just that comment. It seems likely this incident won't necessarily bring the team and the coaching staff closer together.

Devin Smeltzer Donates Time and Money to Local Cancer Research Facility

In a news conference today, Boise starting pitcher Devin Smeltzer has pledged to donate one-tenth of his 2024 salary to the American Cancer Society.
"I don't do it for the headlines; I do it for the patients and their families that are suffering through surgeries and treatment and recovery. Hopefully, one day, we can all find a cure. I'm happy to contribute to that goal, knowing that my money will be used for the greater good."
