Washington Defeated By Cubs, 5-3
|
The Chicago Cubs knocked off the Washington Nationals, 5-3, in National League action at Wrigley Field. Chicago pitcher and Kansas City, Missouri, native Aaron Ashby had an outstanding performance. Ashby, the winner, moves to 4-1. He threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 1 walk. Collin McHugh earned the save for Chicago, his 7th of the year.
Chicago left fielder Ian Happ contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right-center field for a 2-run single. It was his 7th hit of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 5-3.
"We ground out the win," said Happ. "That's all that matters."
Chicago goes to 11-7.
