Pirates Win at Cleveland, 7-5
|
The Cleveland Guardians inaugurated the 2025 campaign with a disappointing 7-5 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Progressive Field. Pittsburgh shortstop Oneil Cruz had a big impact on the outcome. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Cade Povich earned the win for Pittsburgh. He lasted 6.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 1-0. The save was credited to Duane Underwood Jr., his 1st.
With Pittsburgh leading 4-1 in the top of the fifth, Cruz hit a fastball from Shane Bieber for a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Pirates ahead, 6-1.
"I felt good up there," said Cruz. "I saw the ball well."
