Guardians Earn Clutch Win, 5-4
|
Fans watched the Cleveland Guardians and the New York Yankees fight to the finish.
New York designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton was sensational. He was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Cleveland beat the Yankees, 5-4. Braunny Munoz earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record is now 2-1.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Omar Narváez? The Cleveland catcher had a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Guardians on top, 4-3. For the game, Narváez had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," New York manager Aaron Boone said, following the tough loss.
The third-place Guardians now sit at 58-53.
