Scimitars Rally to Nose Past Havana
Despite the exploits of designated hitter Faruq Ghazali, the Havana Pirates were beaten by the Istanbul Scimitars, 5-4, in 10 innings. Ghazali went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The first-place Scimitars have won 4 in a row.

The Scimitars got a clutch hit from first baseman Vince Vermeule. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Scimitars.

"It's great when the crowd is energized," Vermeule said.
