Beavers Take Down Gladiators, 4-3
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Toronto Beavers got the win.
The Toronto Beavers beat the Rome Gladiators by a score of 4-3. Toronto first baseman Anatole Hagiorgiu deserved the lion's share of the credit. Hagiorgiu slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Beavers. Sukmo Kartodirdjo was the winner. Over 8 innings, he yielded 3 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Tuki Aolani earned the save for Toronto, his 14th of the year.
Hagiorgiu had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a full count fastball from Danny Mendez, he banged a solo home run to left-center, giving the Beavers a 4-3 lead. It was the 9th home run of the year for Hagiorgiu.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Hagiorgiu. "And not try to do too much."
The victory gives Toronto a record of 23-21.
