Volcanoes Earn 4-3 Win Versus Seals
|
Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the Virunga Volcanoes and New Zealand Seals.
New Zealand got a big-time effort from pitcher Daryl Clark, but it wasn't enough to keep the Virunga Volcanoes from winning the game, 4-3. Clark threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Virunga reliever Gürsel Korkmaz picked up the win to move to 1-1. Fawzi bin Rafiq suffered the loss. Picking up the save was Leta Usi, his 4th.
The most important at-bat for Virunga came in the top of the ninth inning, when left fielder Kuang-an Chao stroked a first pitch cutter to right for a run-scoring single, putting Virunga up, 4-3.
"I was a little disappointed," said New Zealand manager Ali bin Sayyid. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
The Seals, at 20-23, have lost 4 in a row.
