bin Naji Pitches 1-0 Shutout for Istanbul
|
The Nigeria Nkali had no answer for Istanbul Scimitars pitcher Rakin bin Naji. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 1-0. Nigeria managed only 2 hits off bin Naji, who had 9 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular bin Naji got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Scimitars fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
This year, bin Naji has registered 16 wins and 4 losses in 29 starts with a 3.70 ERA while registering 153 strikeouts and 60 walks in 177.2 innings.
