South Africa Tops Virunga, 5-2
|
South Africa pitcher Tekle-Mariam Shehata did his part in helping his team defeat the Virunga Volcanoes, 5-2. The opposition could never get too much going against the left-hander. Hamid Hatim nailed down his 3rd save. South Africa's record now stands at 58-54, placing them second in the Eastern League Africa.
South Africa used a well-timed hit by Angel Forteza to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Black Sox ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
Shehata attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
