Marrakesh Loses, 2-1, in 10
|
Rakin bin Naji, who is tied for 8th in the EL in strikeouts with 140, never let the Marabouts get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his slider, to pitch the Scimitars to a win, 2-1. Istanbul reliever Henri Dufour snagged the win, upping his record to 4-4. Roy Cartwright shouldered the loss. The Scimitars lead the Eastern League Middle East by 19½ games.
The decisive blow was delivered by Yasser Waruhiu in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a run-scoring double off fan favorite Roy Cartwright to win the game for Istanbul. The home crowd went nuts.
"We're playing like we're capable of," said Istanbul manager Akram Yusuf.
