Scimitars first baseman Vince Vermeule put his stamp on his team's 12-4 win over the Tehran Stars. Vermeule hit 3 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring three times for Istanbul in the contest. The Scimitars, at 65-31, have a comfortable 17½-game lead in their division.

Istanbul grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Vermeule hit a 2-run home run off Sung-hoon Kim. His 35th home run of the season put the Scimitars out in front, 6-4.

"We take it day by day here," said Vermeule, "and today was a good one for us."
