van Vliet Blasts Kosmonauts, Nkali Take Game 3, 9-4
|
The Nigeria Nkali have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Moscow Kosmonauts, winning 9-4 at Moscow Stadium today. Nkali center fielder Gerold van Vliet went 4-4 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 4 runs. The win cuts the deficit facing the Nkali to 2-1 in the best-of-7 World Series.
Had Rafael Leon Jr. not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Leon Jr. hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Nkali.
"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," van Vliet said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Moscow Stadium in Moscow.
