Liukko Blasts Gladiators, Bachateros Take Game 1, 6-4
With center fielder Jami Liukko leading the charge, the Santo Domingo Bachateros got a road win over the Rome Gladiators, 6-4, in Game 1 of the Wildcard Series today. Liukko belted 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice at Los Angeles Grounds to help Santo Domingo take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

The Bachateros took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Facing Rome hurler Thomas Matthiesen with two outs, Liukko hit a 3-run home run.

"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Santo Domingo manager Tekalgn Adjo told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Los Angeles Grounds in Rome.
