Suns Edge Emeralds, 8-7
|
The 8-7 Santiago win over Bogota was due in large part to Jarkko Hakkinen. The Suns third baseman was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. The Suns, at 39-45, sit in 4th place in the Western League South American.
With Santiago leading 3-2 in the top of the fourth, Hakkinen hit a changeup from Antonio Velasquez for a 2-run double. It was his 13th double of the season and put the Suns ahead, 5-2.
Suns manager Ernesto Diaz wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
