Rio Bats Go Silent in 1-0 Loss
|
The Melbourne Kangaroos picked up a win at Rio de Janeiro Ballpark, downing the Rio Macaws, 1-0. On the mound for Melbourne was right-hander Edwin Saldivar, who played a pivotal role in the win. Saldivar, the winner, moves to 7-3. He threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 5 walks. Binota Sarat, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.
Melbourne used the hitting of Uregh Mhina to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put the Kangaroos on top, 1-0. For the game, Mhina had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Mhina, "one at-bat at a time."
Melbourne now has a record of 37-31 with the win.
