Lukyanov Delivers Walk-Off Win for Suns
|
The Santiago Suns, with some walk-off drama, delighted their fans at Santiago Field.
The Hong Kong Patriots could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Stephen Bell into a win. Instead, the Santiago Suns prevailed, 3-2, in 11 innings. Bell threw 9.0 innings of shutout ball. The Suns saw their record improve to 33-32.
The Suns got a clutch hit from right fielder Mishe Lukyanov. In the bottom of the 11th, he hit a run-scoring single to center, to win the game for the Suns.
During his postgame press conference, Suns manager Omar Torres told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
