Stockholm Loses, 8-7, Despite Stewart Exploits
|
The Stockholm Vikings got a sterling performance from left fielder Brandon Stewart, but the Rome Gladiators still prevailed, 8-7. Stewart slugged 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 6. The winner was Rome reliever Niels Zinck, now 4-2. The loser was Hector Comacho. Tewodros Benzai sewed up the save, his 3rd.
Rome needed the clutch hitting of Konstantine Rapoport to seal the deal. The right fielder swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Gladiators on top, 8-7. For the game, Rapoport had 2 home runs and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Rapoport.
The third-place Gladiators improved to 28-29.
