The Dubai Towers faced a tough opponent in Tehran pitcher Jon Gutierrez, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Emirati Ballpark by a final score of 3-1. Gutierrez went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. Thierry Monteil, the winner, goes to 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts over 7.2 innings. The loss drops the Stars to 1-4.
Jonathan Lopez had a big 2-run home run for the Towers in the bottom of the first inning. With Dubai leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from 11-year veteran Jon Gutierrez and swatted a home run to left. It was his 6th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Towers ahead, 3-0.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Tehran skipper Jordan Turcios, "and it cost us."
