Red-Hot Allen Cools Off Segovia
Wednesday, August 22nd , 2068
Matt Allen of the Seney Swampmonsters was on top of his game.
The 27-year-old tantalized the Segovia Cochinillos with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 1-0.
"He had the changeup working," Segovia manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Seney hurler had 15 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.
Allen told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This year, Allen has made 11 starts, thrown 90 innings, fanned 116 batters and walked 4. His won-lost record is 8-0 with a 0.10 ERA.
