"Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.

Well, good pitching also beats bad hitting.

John Martin of the Seney Swampmonsters proved the point at Riverside Fields today, holding the Allendale Animals to 5 hits in a complete game shutout victory.

"Martin made us look real bad today," Animals manager said in a postgame interview. "He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."

Martin had 9 strikeouts and gave up no walks as the Swampmonsters took the 10-0 win.

In 12 starts this year Martin has posted 2 wins while suffering 5 losses. He has pitched 64 innings, allowed 71 hits, struck out 60 and has a 3.23 ERA.
