Maple Leafs Win Thriller, 5-4
The Toronto Maple Leafs had to overcome a big game from Buffalo shortstop Jeremy Smith to leave Maple Leaf Park at Hanlan's Point with a victory. And they did, winning, 5-4, in 12 innings. Smith went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Mike Griffin came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. The Maple Leafs sit in first place in the Eastern League Carlos Rios Division with a record of 46-32.

The Maple Leafs got a clutch hit from designated hitter Carlos Mejía. In the bottom of the 12th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Maple Leafs.

"It was a test of wills," said Mark Sambor, the Toronto skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
