The Toronto Maple Leafs earned a close win over the Minnesota Lake Monsters, thanks in part to Xi-ku Ci. The Toronto right-hander, who is tied for 7th in the EL in wins with 8, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. The Maple Leafs bumped their record to 43-31 with this win.
Ed Sánchez came through with a big-time hit for Toronto. The shortstop smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We were in it," said Minnesota manager Wally C. "We just didn't score enough runs."
