Violators Win at Mexico City, 5-4
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Mexico City Toros Bravos home opener. Masahiro Watanabe started for the home team against Mei Chen for the Vegas Violators. The Toros Bravos were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 5-4, Vegas. Miguel Gómez, though, was impressive. Juan Ellis picked up the save for Vegas, his 1st of the year.
Vegas used a well-timed hit by Stan Burgos to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Violators ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
"We had situations where we should have got some runs in, but we didn't get the runs in," said losing manager Matt Spencer.
