The rain came, as predicted, but the Memphis Catfish and New Orleans Jazz were able to complete their ballgame.

The Memphis Catfish defeated the New Orleans Jazz, 5-2, in part because of second baseman Oliver Ruíz. Ruíz belted 2 home runs for the Catfish. Jon Hodges, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.

Memphis used the hitting of Ricardo Martínez to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Catfish on top, 2-0. For the game, Martínez had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.

"Nervous? No," said Ruíz. "It was my time to shine."

New Orleans, with the loss, is still a stout 5-2.
