Maple Leafs Need Extra Innings to Top Force, 5-3
New York got a big-time effort from pitcher Masuhiro Tashima, but it wasn't enough to keep the Toronto Maple Leafs from winning the game, 5-3. Tashima threw 7.2 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. Toronto reliever Raúl Rodríguez got the win, raising his record to 2-2. Don Thomas was tagged with the loss. The win for the Maple Leafs raised their record to 28-26.

Toronto used the timely hitting of Lawrence Lysons to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Maple Leafs on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"It was a good effort all around," said Lysons.
