Washington and Denver engaged in a slugfest.

The Washington Black Bears outscored the Denver Gold, 16-12. Mike Lambert led the way, going 2-for-3 for Washington. Jim Carrillo snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-0 on the season. Dave Benton suffered the loss.

Oscar Smith had a big bases-clearing double for the Black Bears in the bottom of the second inning. With Washington leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a sinker from Dave Benton and swatted a double to right. It was his 32nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Black Bears ahead, 5-1.

"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Smith.

The Black Bears improved their record to 75-55 by beating Denver.
