Ebert Finally Fails, Streak Ends at 20 Friday, August 24th , 2040 For 20 straight games, Mike Ebert tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy. Well, the 24-year-old Buffalo Bisons third baseman can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Norfolk Tides. The Tides held him hitless in 5 at-bats at Harbor Park and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 20. There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Bisons took the win by the score of 5-1. "I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now." This year, Ebert has socked 83 hits in 231 at-bats for a .359 average with 11 home runs. He is getting on base at a .427 pace and his totals also include 54 RBIs and 40 runs scored. |
