Cheetahs Advance to Japan Series Friday, November 7th , 2036 The Vereeniging Cheetahs took time to celebrate with the Vereeniging fans who stuck around after the game, following the team's Final Stage triumph over the Soweto Warcats. Members of the Cheetahs hung around chatting, high-fiving and taking pictures with the Vereeniging fans in attendance at Cheetahs Stadium, long after the last pitch had been thrown in their 5-4 win to seal the series 3-1. "We've got great fan support," said left fielder Dermott Shomari. "Whether we're at home or on the road, the fans support us. So we wanted to show them how important that is to us. Some Soweto fans that were there even congratulated us on the win." For the series, Shomari hit .400 with a .533 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, 6 RBI and scored 4 runs. Things weren't so cordial on the Warcats side of things. Their clubhouse was closed to media after the game and all players and coaches quickly dressed and left the stadium after the end to their season. The Vereeniging Cheetahs will play against the Johannesburg Seals in the next round. Johannesburg won their series against the Durban Conquistadors 3 games to 0. The Japan Series schedule will be announced after the Final Stage finishes. |
