League KO's Indians-Blue Jays Players with 4-Game Suspensions Wednesday, August 18th , 2060 Sometimes on the baseball diamond disparaging words are uttered in anger and lead to more than what the players bargained for. That's what happened at yesterday's Kinston Indians-Bluefield Blue Jays game at Ballpark of Kinston. What started off as a war of words ended up a tag team match as both clubs rushed on the field to defend their honor. When the umpires sorted it all out, they ejected Kinston's Brent Hanson and Bluefield's Yaisnier Matos from the game for their roles in starting the melee. Today the players were notified by the league office that they had been suspended 4 games for violating league rules. So far on the season, Hanson is hitting .232 with 2 home runs, 9 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He has 44 hits and played in 51 games. To date in the season, Matos is 0-0 with 13 relief appearances and 2 saves. He has held opposing batters to a .279 average, pitched 15.2 innings, struck out 14 and walked 8 while recording a 3.45 ERA. |
