Hits Galore: Sheaffer Drills 5 Hits
Saturday, May 7th , 2061
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Trent Sheaffer, it came around today.
The 22-year-old second baseman scattered hits all over McCormick Field to pace the 10-2 Augusta GreenJackets victory over the Asheville Tourists.
Asheville skipper Paul Smith told reporters in the press room that "Sheaffer deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Sheaffer hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Trent Sheaffer singled in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
In his season totals Sheaffer has no home runs and a .393 batting average.
