Valdez Cracks 3 HR for Shuckers Saturday, July 15th , 2051 Biloxi Shuckers catcher Wendolyn Valdez put on a dazzling display of power today at Whataburger Field against the Corpus Christi Hooks. In the 9-6 Shuckers victory Valdez penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Corpus Christi manager Evan Sawyer said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 24-year-old had 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Valdez said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Wendolyn Valdez hit a two-run home run off John Wasecko in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off John Wasecko in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Landon Richard in the 6th, flied out in the 8th and doubled in the 9th. Valdez on the season is batting .262 with 10 home runs. His totals include 20 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He has played in 26 games. |
