Bears Pitching Ravaged by Putnam Monday, June 10th , 2052 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Willard Putnam, it came around today. The 24-year-old first baseman scattered hits all over Huntington Park to pace the Columbus Clippers to a 10-1 victory over the Newark Bears. Newark skipper Jessie Moe told reporters in the press room that "Putnam deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Putnam hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Willard Putnam singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Tarik Hogue in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Herb Tucker in the 6th and singled in the 8th. To date Putnam has chalked up a .293 average with 6 home runs, driven in 37 runs and scored 27 times. View Boxscore |
