Mitcham Hitless, Stopped by Giants
Saturday, July 2nd , 2061
Chicago catcher Uriel Mitcham came into today's game against the San Francisco Giants on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.
The Giants did their jobs well, beating the Chicago White Sox, 4-2, and holding Mitcham hitless to snap his 23-game hitting streak. The 27-year-old catcher had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-4, telling reporters only that he "came up short."
"What Uriel did was exciting and quite an achievement," said White Sox manager Tristan Scoggins. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 23 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."
So far this season, Mitcham is batting .383 with 14 home runs, 61 RBIs and 49 runs scored. He has 98 hits in 256 at-bats, 20 walks and a .428 OBP. Mitcham has played in 62 games.
