Fernandez 5-for-6 for White Sox
Saturday, June 8th, 2019
After a 5-hit effort to lead Chicago's 11-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics, first baseman Willie Fernandez told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Skyline Baseball League-level is really something special."

The 24-year-old player earned his accolades today at O.co Coliseum with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Athletics.

"His swing is getting there," said White Sox skipper Luis Carrillo, who spoke glowingly of Fernandez after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Willie did that to perfection today."

Willie Fernandez hit a two-run home run off Shiloh Ducre in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off Rich Todd in the 9th.

This season Fernandez is hitting .305 with 62 hits, 10 home runs, 34 RBIs, scored 27 runs and played in 53 games.
