Pittsburgh Defeated By Ignition, 5-2
|
A good performance from third baseman Elijah Vanderpool helped the Indianapolis Ignition defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-2. Vanderpool went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Ignition. Jimmy Nanney got the win, improving to 3-0. He held the Pirates to 2 runs on 3 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Ellis Fido closed the door for Indianapolis, picking up his 2nd save of the year.
Tom Dunmire had a big 2-run double for the Ignition in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Indianapolis leading 3-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from 32-year old right-handed pitcher Rowan Childers and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Ignition ahead, 5-2.
"Nice to tuck this win away," said Dunmire.
The Ignition, now 16-3, have had a terrific start to the season.
