Catfish Collect 6-3 Win Versus Charleston
|
The Columbus Catfish beat the Charleston RiverDogs, 6-3, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. Columbus second baseman Domingo Cruz banged out 1 single and 2 doubles, while driving in 2 runs. Mikey Mauldin snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 3 innings. He's now 3-2 on the season. Picking up the save was Darian Welch. He's now 22 for 29 in save chances.
It could have been a different outcome for Columbus, had it not been for Thomas Elmore, the 23-year old first baseman . Elmore contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the sixth inning to put Columbus up, 6-3.
Elmore called the win "a pick-me-upper."
By defeating Charleston, the 5th-place Catfish improved to 48-44.
