Crawdads Beat Lexington, 6-5
|
The inspired effort of Lexington pinch hitter Raymond Campbell was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-5, to the Hickory Crawdads. Campbell went 1-1 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Hickory reliever Harley Alden was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Mal Platt. Earning his 3rd save for Hickory was Oliver Horton.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Kennedy Byrne came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Lexington pitcher Mal Platt, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Hickory on top, 6-5.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Byrne told the Hickory Herald.
At 43-43, the Crawdads find themselves in 5th place in the South Atlantic League Carolina Division.
