Fireflies Net 4-2 Win
|
Due in large part to right fielder Jack Rainey, the Columbia Fireflies sunk the Delmarva Shorebirds, 4-2. Rainey went 2-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Levi Dean got credit for the win, improving to 4-6. He allowed 2 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings. The Fireflies go to 36-35, putting them 6th in the South Atlantic League Carolina Division.
Columbia took a 4-2 lead on Rainey's 6th home run of the season. The solo home run, which he hit off Chet Walker in the top of the eighth, propelled Columbia to the win.
Rainey said his team "played with a purpose."
