Tourists Trip Drive, 3-1
|
McCormick Field was the site of a tense game between the Greenville Drive and Asheville Tourists.
The Asheville Tourists got a magnificent performance from pitcher Hermes Rivera, who muffled the Greenville offense en route to a tight, 3-1 Tourists win at McCormick Field. In 6.1 innings, Rivera surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Leo Velez closed it out for his 19th save.
Rafael Manchego had a big run-scoring double for the Tourists in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Asheville leading 2-1 and a runner on 3rd, he got a fastball from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Dom Williams and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Tourists ahead, 3-1.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Rivera.
By defeating Greenville, the second-place Tourists improved to 42-28.
