Fireflies Squash Drive, 11-2
|
The Columbia Fireflies put together a convincing win at Fluor Field at the West End, defeating the Greenville Drive, 11-2. Isaac Cummings was one of the hitting stars. He was 4-5 with 4 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times for Columbia. John Berger, now 2-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 2 and walking 0. Gael Faucher nailed down his 1st save.
Columbia used a well-timed hit by René Recoba to capture the win. The first baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Fireflies ahead, 5-2. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Tim Fox told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
At 28-40, the Fireflies find themselves in 8th place in the South Atlantic League Carolina Division.
