Mordecai Excels, But Fireflies Win
|
The Columbia Fireflies withstood an impressive performance by Rome third baseman Odell Mordecai to defeat the Braves, 9-7, at Spirit Communications Park. Mordecai went 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The Fireflies raised their record to 23-37.
Plácido Gonzalez aided the Columbia cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first. For the game, the designated hitter was 1-3 with a triple and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs.
Fireflies manager Jason Earle wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
