Braves Best GreenJackets in Pitching Duel
|
First Energy Park hosted a real pitchers' duel.
The Rome Braves claimed a close win over the Augusta GreenJackets, due in large part to Beau Groetken. The Rome right-hander pitched a great game to secure the 2-1 win. Groetken got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 6 hits and walked 3 over 5.1 innings. He allowed 1 run. Hayden Jamieson got the save, the 3rd for him this season.
Joseph Mays, who is tied for 3rd in the SAL in triples with 2, had a direct impact on the outcome. Mays contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the third inning to put Rome up, 2-0.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Augusta manager Cooper Johnson. "We just didn't cash in."
Rome raised its record to 26-13 with the win.
