Grasshoppers Lose at Home, 3-1, to Columbia
|
Pitcher Shane Epperson was sensational for the Columbia Fireflies in his team's 3-1 triumph over the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Epperson earned the win. In 5.2 innings, Epperson surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. Today's win puts Columbia at 13-22, while Greensboro falls to 20-15.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Jaycob Simmons? The Columbia shortstop had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Fireflies on top, 2-0. For the game, Simmons had 1 double and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
After the game, Simmons told the Columbia Chronicle, "Like I've always said, the challenge is what makes this game worth playing."
