Drive Sneak Past RiverDogs, 5-4
|
The Greenville Drive took Charleston pitcher Jamaal Diggs's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The final score had Greenville getting past the RiverDogs, 5-4. Diggs went 5 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 7. Greenville reliever Walter Gulvan was credited with the win. His record goes to 1-0. Luke Cordero took the loss for Charleston. Charleston now has a record of 11-11.
Greenville used the timely hitting of Elijah Yancey to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Drive on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Winning is contagious," said Yancey. "We're looking forward to the next game."
