Columbia starter Jock Pike pitched well against the Rome Braves at State Mutual Stadium. The left-hander led his team to a win, 6-1. The win takes Columbia to 3-2.

Columbia used a well-timed hit by Sammy Singer to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Fireflies ahead, 5-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.

"When you are able to locate the ball, good things are going to happen," said Pike.
