The Hagerstown Suns opened their 2059 season with a triumph over the Lakewood BlueClaws at Ballpark of Hagerstown. The final score was 4-2. Hagerstown third baseman Felicidad Valdes had a big game. He went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Luca Boris went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits. The right-hander, who is rated as the 82nd best prospect by BNN, struck out 6 and walked 2. With the win, he's now 1-0 this season.
With Hagerstown trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Valdes hit a sinker from Johnny Stewart for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Suns ahead, 3-1.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Valdes told the Hagerstown Daily News. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
