Sod Poodles Whip Captains, 13-1
|
The Ames Sod Poodles easily defeated the Lake County Captains, 13-1, at Community Field, with first baseman Hannibal Cannarella a main contributor to the win. He went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 3 times for Ames. Conrad De La Cruz picked up the win, improving his season record to 5-3. He struck out 5 in 6 innings. Ron McGinness earned the save for Ames, his 1st.
The Captains had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Sod Poodles going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old right fielder Nicky Edwards came to the plate. Edwards hit a run-scoring double on a 1-1 slider from Lake County hurler Todd Knock. It was Edwards's 6th double of the year.
"This is playing in sync. Everything kind of fell into place," said winning manager Jake DiVita.
Ames has now reeled off 6 straight wins.
